Who we are

When I began songwriting, I often felt isolated and inexperienced. Like many emerging writers, I lacked community and guidance. That changed in 2007 when I connected with a songwriting circle in Johnson City, Tennessee. Witnessing others create and share their work made songwriting feel possible and accessible. I found belonging, inspiration, and support, and it changed my path.

The Songwriters Collective, a 501(c)(3) organization, exists to build that same culture of connection and opportunity in Kentucky and Appalachia. Our mission is to connect creative communities, provide resources and support systems, and ensure songwriting is accessible and sustainable for all who pursue it.

As our region’s music ecosystem continues to develop, we have a unique chance to strengthen both the artistic and economic landscape. While music is an industry that brings valuable growth to Kentucky, we believe it must be nurtured alongside a grounded, holistic, and artist-centered approach. By providing tools, community, and access to pathways from grassroots to mainstream, we aim to empower songwriters to thrive in a modern world while staying rooted in their creative identity and cultural heritage.
